Wow, I haven't been on here in a while, and there's a good reason: RENOVATIONS. Christopher and I took ownership of our first home on May 4th and started the renos by ripping out the old kitchen, knocking out a wall and tearing up the tile. A nail up the foot (Christopher) and a messed up finger later (me), we have continued the wood floors from the living room in to the kitchen, painted the walls (and ceiling), built all the cabinets (wall and island), put up all the cabinets, hooked up the appliances and most recently put in the counters and sink!

We could have not done all this work with out the help from both of our parents, sleepless nights, suppers at midnight and lots of coffee. We are so happy with the results and cannot wait to complete it.

We still have a bunch of late nights to look forward to before our kitchen will be completed. Our to do list for the kitchen includes: make the concrete counters for the island, drill the hole for the island outlet, put up all our new light fixtures, hook up the range hood, buy and put up the mouldings (crown and baseboard), add the finishing touches to the cabinets (moulding, handles, etc.) and finally put in the pot lights and under/ in- cabinet lights.

Oh boy, that list seems longer now that it's written down. Take a look at the before and after photos below!

Until next time.

I'm excited to announce that Christopher (my amazing boyfriend) and I bought our first house!

Now that we found a great house we have a lot of shopping to do, for furniture and renovation items – we're redoing the kitchen and upstairs bathroom. Did I mention we are attempting to do this ourselves?!

Since we are renovating the kitchen and bathroom ourselves we have done a lot of research on everything bathroom and kitchen. We have decided to go with an IKEA kitchen and have basically finished the plans. Note to anyone looking to renovate their kitchen with IKEA: wait for the IKEA Kitchen Event! You can save up to 20% (which you get back in IKEA giftcards). This is awesome because if you plan everything properly, you can get 20% of your kitchen absolutely free!

IKEA has an online application that isn't exactly the best (the system is extremely slow, but if you're patient, it works great), but it gets the job done. Once you have the layout you love, I suggest you go to your nearest IKEA store and show it to one of the kitchen experts. They will tell you what you have done properly (yay!) and what you'll need to change.

My brother has just ordered his kitchen from IKEA and since his kitchen will be done before ours, I will post pictures of what his looks like after he is finishd building it! Stay tuned!

Interior Design/ Decorating is a hobby of mine. Something I can't do right now because we are renting, so it makes me want to re-decorate everything more than ever!

I love the look of old houses, they have so much character. When you redecorate an old house, it makes the house look fresh and new, while the old-home charm stays. One way I love to re-decorate an old home to freshen it up (as I'm sure most of you do), is to paint the walls a neutral color, even a pale blue or grey and add white paint to the trim.

Check out the entrance to the house below, I am in love!

Kitchens, to me, are the main room in the house. You make breakfast, lunch (on weekends) and dinner in there. It is an important part of the house because you need room for all your appliances, food, ingredients and dishes. The kitchen below even has an island with bar stools where you can eat or watch the chef cook. This is what makes a house a home, having a room where everyone can gather and be together.

I also love these light fixtures! Check out this kitch and more on pinterest.

Spring Cleaning. Where to start, how to start and how to organize. Spring cleaning is about getting rid of the items in our homes that we no longer use. Sometimes it means throwing it in the trash, donating it to your local S.A. store, putting it in a garage sale or giving it to a friend or family member who will make use of the item.

Whatever the case, if you aren't using it the best thing to do is get rid of it.

Check out some ideas for organization, found on buzzfeed.

Headboards are a great DYI project. Not only do you get a one of a kind head board, the headboard will be the perfect color, shape, material, etc. Some DYI headboards are really easy to make too!

Curtains are a big part of decorating a room, and choosing the right ones are essential to a room's harmony. First things first, you must choose what style you are going for: country, modern, etc. The style of the curtain must be considered based on both the principal color and the accent colors.

There are so many patterns and colors to choose from when buying curtains, but don't forget about all the other elements in the room. The worst thing to do is to have elements competing.

Here are a few examples of curtains that work really well with the room.

Indoor paint colors this year are soothing neutral colors, with pops of colors that can be found in nature (turquoise ocean colors, for example).

Neutral colors can be a great way to make a home feel welcoming with the right accessories and furniture. The pantone colors for this year are; 13-4404 Ice Flow (a blue grey tone), 18-1306 Iron (a dark purple-brown color), 15-5217 Blue Turquoise, 13-0401 Oatmeal, and 16-6324 Jadesheen (a green tone).

These colors can be used as feature walls, or to cover an entire room. The Ice Flow would look great with one feature wall (say the fireplace wall) in Iron or even Blue Turquoise. Take a look at this years colors below.

Bathrooms are so important, one of the most important rooms in the house. So having a bathroom that is both functional and beautiful is also important.

Having a bathroom that suits your house and your style will help you relax when you're taking a bubble bath, instead of stress over when you'll get around to changing that ugly matching pink toilet and bathtub set.

Take a look at this modern mixed with rustic bathroom below!

Let's talk about home styles. This summer, that cottage-feel home is on everyone's mind. The amazing multi-light windows that go from floor to ceiling, the wood siding and of course the view from the large oversized deck. Who wouldn't dream of having a cottage or home like this?
